Be considerate of your fellow travelers | Daily Prompt: Alma Mater

You’ve been asked to speak at your high school alma mater — about the path of life. (Whoa.) Draft the speech.

(This is unedited. This is neither the first nor the last draft. And this was written while listening to Baz Luhrman’s “(Everybody’s Free) Wear Sunscreen.”)

I may be years ahead of you but that does not I am sure of where I am headed. I can’t even be certain if the path I am on is the right one.

But who on their journey was ever convinced that their choices were correct?

No matter whatever tips I, your teachers, your parents, or your friends could give you, they can only influence you so much. In the end, you will choose your path.

And upon choosing, may it be your own decision, your own will—not someone else’s.

Don’t worry if you don’t know what to do with the rest of your life. And don’t envy who look like they have it all together and seem to have it all figured out. The biggest secret on this path? No one really has.

We’re all playing this by ear. We’re all looking as far ahead as we could but keep your feet on to today and not tomorrow.

Enjoy the journey. Be excited for the destination. And be considerate of your fellow travelers.
