I Am My Own Message | Daily Prompt: Second Time Around

Tell us about a book you can read again and again without getting bored — what is it that speaks to you?

Though this isn’t exactly “pick a favorite anything” DP, it kind of reads like that. And just as hard!

So please indulge me for choosing two.

A Separate Peace by John Knowles

A Separate Peace
A Separate Peace by John Knowles

WWII is just about to start. The boys come to realize the chaos that is within and without. And they cope with it however they could, to keep as much light to themselves away from the darkness. And to have some peace, even by themselves.

But sometimes a person doesn’t know that darkness has crept into his soul until he has done the unthinkable.

How much resentment do you have in your heart? Do you deny the very hate that fuels your existence and movement? Are you aware of how bitter you are as a person? Could you see that you are pushing people away?

Can you do something that terrible to your best friend?

Re-read: March 2012

Sometimes, you really have no idea what to do with yourself.

Even without really going existentialistic, the book discusses, questions, and answers what a person can and should do with himself. In between its covers, I am reminded that are worlds and people who may be beyond the pages but are within my reach. And that I am not the only person alive and present on this planet.

I am my own message and I am my own messenger. And every day, I am telling the world what I want and need it to know.

I really like the cover of A Separate Place – and yes, I choose books by their covers sometimes 🙂

Yeah, that has happened to me a few times. Not knowing a book’s content has some excitement to it.
