If you eat at a superheroes café, would they serve super food?
Personally, I wouldn’t know many super foods—just oatmeal, the berries, and avocado. But that was what I was wondering about when my companions and I went to DC Super Heroes Café. It opened just last July and predictably attracted much of the DC fandom as well comic geeks and foodies.
The interiors of the restaurant are where recognizable facades, haunts, and structures featured in the comics, TV shows, and movies collided. Almost every corner and booth has a face or costume people would recognize. Fun as it was to look at the figures, figurines, and other merchandize, we were there for food.
So, what did we have?
My companions ordered Duck Fat Fries, Pepperoni Focaccia Pizza, and Shrimp Bisque & Noodles. Most of what they had I couldn’t have because they have pork or forbidden seafood. Thankfully, they had stuff I could eat without worries, like Mac and Cheesemeister. I love the great contrast of textures: soft, almost-melt-in-the-mouth cheesy pasta with crunchy, slightly toasted slices of bread.
Wish I had ordered a drink. But I did have dessert.
Strawberry Trifle was a fun little treat to end the meal. Frankly, I did not know it would be presented that way. Love the surprise! And it tasted just the way it looked. The soil was chalky chocolate and the strawberries were sweet yet tart—there was some bite to the fruit that looked like it would take a bite out of you.
